Description

This species was bred in 1949 as a hybrid of Folvel and Renet Simirenko. Breeders received an excellent winter-hardy specimen of a fruit tree, which bears fruit annually starting from 3-4 years after planting.

The tree is medium in size, 4-5 m in height. Its branches from the trunk are located at an angle of 75-80 ° and have an average density. The crown is rounded, easy to form. The branches are weak, directed upwards, have an optimal degree of branching and density.

The type of fruiting in the tree is mainly on ringlets, but apples formed on spears are also found. Its leaves are dark green, rather dense. The reverse side of the leaf has a dusty green color, and its edge is crenate.

The fruits are all round-cylindrical in shape, tend to grow in groups of 3-4 pieces. Their skin is smooth, dense, without plaque and wax coating. The fruits are similar in size, almost all one to one.

They are bright green in color. On the side where the most sun hits the apple, there will be a reddish blurred blush. The fruit is medium in size, weighing from 90 to 110 g.

The apple pulp is soft and fine-grained. It has an average juiciness, and it tastes sweet and sour, and the sourness is strongly pronounced, so the apples of Sikora's Memory are not to everyone's liking.

Sugar in one fruit is 11.2%, and acidity is 0.8%, but during the onset of the spring-summer period, in May-June, the second indicator for an apple decreases.

Landing

In order for a tree to take root and give a good harvest, it is imperative to study how to plant it correctly, what soil is needed for it, how to fertilize and water it. With proper care, a fruit tree will yield a large and ripe harvest.

Timing

The apple tree is planted in late spring or early autumn. After that, the tree will need to grow in this place for more than a dozen years, so the choice of territory must be taken seriously. If the tree is planted in the fall, you need to prepare a hole for it in two weeks.

Technology

For landing, choose a place that is well lit and protected from the wind. The soil for the tree should be loamy or sandy loam. Before placing the seedling in the ground, pits are prepared. Each should be 60-70 cm deep and 90-100 cm in diameter.

The distance between the seedlings is at least 5 m. Be sure to take into account the fact that the tree must be planted so that groundwater does not reach it, because otherwise it can rot and die.

The soil needs fertilization - for this they use 2-3 buckets of humus, wood ash - 1 kg, superphosphate - 1 kg and the top layer of earth from the pit. This top dressing is poured into the hole, and only then the seedling is placed.

The root system of the tree is gently straightened by hand. Then they cover it with 5 cm of earth, trample it down, and put straw around the trunk so that the earth does not crack. After planting, a hole is formed next to it so that it retains water when watering. The tree must be tied to a support and protected from the wind for a while.

Care

The fruiting of an apple tree depends on the quality of care

The fruiting of an apple tree depends on the quality of care

After planting a tree, it needs proper care, otherwise it may die. All activities must be carried out clearly according to plan and correctly, because this is an important component for good fruiting.

Watering

The description suggests that you need to generously water the seedling immediately after it is introduced into the ground. One tree should take 3-4 buckets of water. Then watering is carried out when the first ovaries appear, the first flowering and after harvesting. If there is no rain, the dryness of the soil should be controlled and moistened if necessary.

Top dressing

Without proper and regular feeding of the tree, you can not expect a good harvest. Fertilizers need to be applied 3-4 times a year. They are allowed in dry or liquid form, it all depends on the weather.

To fertilize the apple tree, gardeners form pits 30-40 cm deep around the tree. So the fertilizer is evenly distributed over the roots, which absorb nutrients.

The fertilization process consists of three stages:

  • the first top dressing is applied in winter and organic fertilizers are used for this, for example, humus in the amount of 2-3 buckets per seedling, as well as 500 g of urea. The humus must grind well, otherwise it may burn the tree;
  • the second dressing is applied in liquid form when the first flowering begins. They take 200 liters of water, dilute a bucket of manure or half a bucket of bird droppings in it. If there are no organic fertilizers, then they can be replaced with 500 g of urea;
  • the third top dressing is introduced in the fall, when the crop is harvested. Trees are fertilized with monophosphate and potassium superphosphate. For dwarf varieties, the amount of dressings is reduced by 25-30%.

Pruning

Cut the crown of the apple tree to rejuvenate it, remove old and diseased branches. With the help of pruning, it acquires immunity against various fungal diseases and pests. The procedure is necessary so that the fruits are evenly distributed and the yield is regular and large.

To cut branches for thinning a dense crown, they are removed in a circle. To start growing new shoots, they just need to be shortened. After this procedure, the cut points on the branches are necessarily processed with garden pitch.

Disease protection

The Pamyat Sikora apple variety is moderately resistant to scab, but requires regular processing and protection from other diseases. To do this, you can use natural ingredients - extracts of chamomile, garlic and ash.

It is very easy to use them: you just need to pour the infusion into the sprayer and treat the crown of the tree with it. This can be done at any time of the year, because organic products do not do any harm to the tree, but they protect against diseases.

Often the trunk is painted with slaked lime. In autumn, dry branches and foliage are burned, because there may be spores of fungi. If the tree is sick, then only chemicals that can be purchased at any gardening store will help.

Testimonials

Those who are engaged in the cultivation of the Pamyat Sikora apple tree are glad that they have this tree. It is quite rare and is only grown in certain regions. At fairs in Vitebsk, for example, the purchase of seedlings of this variety is in the first place, but it is difficult to acquire them even there.

The apples grow small but tasty. Their taste harmoniously combines sourness and sweetness. The trees are beautiful and do not require special care - standard procedures are enough to ensure high and regular yields even in the cold season.
