Characteristic
In nature, the flower of the orchid family is found in the tropical zone of the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia and southern China. In the natural environment, there are airy species of various colors and shapes.
Description of the plant:
- Massive roots of gray-green color, covered with velamen. The root system of the porous structure absorbs moisture even from the air, which protects it from drying out and burning in the sun.
- Long peduncle - about 1 m or more.
- Belt-shaped, leathery, green leaf plate with a light bluish bloom. The leaves are arranged alternately.
- An adult specimen forms from 1 to 4 peduncles, each of which forms 15-20 flower buds.
- Fragrant flowers of yellow, white, orange or red color. Of all the orchid species, Vanda blue is the most unusual.
- The inflorescences collected in the brush, every day after blooming, they become larger and brighter in color.
- The Vanda Orchid blooms for about 1.5 months. With good care and keeping conditions, it blooms again.

Sander
Sandera is a large specimen with belt-like foliage. Its height is 50-60 cm. Flowers are formed at the top of the flower arrow, collected in inflorescences of 10-12 pcs. The petals are pink, with white edging and a yellowish-red lip. The diameter of the flowers is 10-12 cm.
Rothschild
The Rothschild hybrid was obtained by crossing the Sandera and the Blue Orchid. It has belt-like, dark green leaves. The flowers are light blue, small, collected in multi-flowered inflorescences and located at the top of the peduncle.
Care features
Basic care of the Wanda orchid requires some skill. The Vanda orchid does not have a pronounced dormant period, therefore, under good conditions, it blooms several times a year.
Due to the massive root system, this flower requires space, so it is placed away from other domestic vegetation.
Temperature regime
The optimum growing temperature is 25-27 ° C. This is one of the most important conditions for full growth, bright and abundant flowering.
If the temperature is below 20 ° C, the Wanda orchid becomes weak and vulnerable to many diseases and pests.
Lighting
To grow a healthy plant, the Wanda Orchid at home provides bright, diffused light with shading at lunchtime.
The optimal daylight hours are 12 hours throughout the year. In summer, there is enough natural light, in winter they are supplemented with artificial light. With a lack of light, the Wanda orchid turns pale, loses its decorative effect and begins to ache.
Air humidity
This indicator should always be stable within 80-90%. It is difficult to provide such a level of humidity in the room by spraying alone, therefore, a stand or pallet with moistened pebbles or expanded clay is additionally installed in the room.
Irrigation of shoots and leaves is carried out in the morning. For this, warm settled water is used. Spraying is carried out every day.
Watering
Home care for the Wanda orchid includes regular watering. For this procedure, use settled water at room temperature.
Water it daily. The main purpose of this procedure is to water the root system of the plant. The roots are immersed in water for 20 minutes. The fact that the plant is drunk is determined by the bright green roots.
To feed the Wanda orchid with ascorbic acid, add 1 tsp to the water. lemon juice in 1 liter of water. This watering will neutralize carbonates. Water it every 3 months.
Flowers are placed in transparent wide vases, then the roots are watered. During watering, the roots emit air bubbles that rise to the surface. As soon as they stop appearing, watering is stopped. This is a sign that the flower is drunk. The remaining water is discarded.
Ventilation
In the care and cultivation of the Wanda orchid requires good air circulation. To ensure this condition, a fan is installed in the room. Such a device creates protection for the indoor flower from sunburn and pest infestation.
It is allowed to install it if the room has high air humidity. If the humidity is low, the fan in working order provokes a cold burn of leaves and stems.
Transplant rules
Caring for the Wanda orchid involves regular transplantation. This variety of the orchid family does not grow in a pot, so it does not need a standard transplant procedure. Such a flower is contained in a vase, basket or glass flask.
For those who do not like this way of growing, there is an option to place the plant in a small bowl with several holes. For the stability of the plantation, sticks are inserted between the roots in some holes. Sprinkle the roots on top with a mixture of crushed pine bark and sphagnum moss.
When the root system has grown, the orchid is transplanted into a larger vase or transparent pot.
Orchid transplant WandaTop dressing
To properly care for the Wanda Orchid, it is fertilized every week. Complex fertilizers are used at the rate of 1 g of a substance per 1 liter of water.
During the formation of flower buds, 1 g of potassium monophosphate is additionally added to the dressing.
The correctness of nutrition is determined by the appearance of the leaves. If in the places of their contact the strip is not more than 1 cm, the nutrition is balanced. With a wider strip, you will have to fertilize more often.
Flowering care
The variety does not have a dormant phase, so it can bloom all year round. Most often, lush and abundant flowering is observed in spring and summer. During this period, the longest daylight hours.
The flowering period is 6-8 weeks, with good care - up to 3 months. Taking care of a flowering specimen is easy. He needs to provide:
- full daylight hours;
- stable temperature regime without sudden changes;
- regular fertilizing and timely watering.
Post-flowering care
After the end of the flowering period, the peduncles are cut off. The faded vanda orchid is kept in a room with low air humidity (50-60%) for 5 days. Then the roots are dipped in pots or vases of warm water (once a week).
No spraying is needed during this period. The plant is taken out into the fresh air: into the garden, onto the balcony. Then they are looked after in the same way as before flowering.
Reproduction methods
Children
Such reproduction of the Wanda orchid with your own hands allows you to get a blooming specimen already a year after planting. But babies rarely appear in this variety.
To speed up the process of root formation, the shoots are sprayed every day. As soon as the roots of the children reach 5 cm in length, they are carefully separated from the mother bush. Places of cuts are sprinkled with crushed coal.
The separated baby is placed in a mini-greenhouse or test tube with high air humidity (85%).
The shoots are removed from the greenhouse after 2 weeks. They are planted in a plastic pot or glass vase. Young specimens should be grown in a nutrient substrate from the bark of coniferous trees (3 parts) and sphagnum moss (1 part). As soon as they reach a meter height, they are transplanted into a permanent container.
Division of the stem
For cultivation, a faded specimen with a stem of at least 50 cm is used.Using sterile scissors, the shoot is cut so that its upper part is at least 20 cm of the length of the branch.
The lower part of the shoot requires the same care. In the period from 9 to 12 months, new shoots will form on the cut branch.
For the germination of new stems, the upper part is treated with coal powder, left to dry for a day, then wrapped with moistened sphagnum moss and a transparent film. The plant should be placed in a warm room with good ventilation. Some growers carry out cultivation of the stem in glass (flask, test tube). Then the film is not required.
Difficulties in growing
The most common growing problem is low air humidity. As a result, the leaves turn yellow on the flower, dry out and fall off.
Resuscitation of such a plant consists in watering and subsequent cultivation in a glass flask.
The leaves of the plant turn yellow, wither and crumble for another reason:
- lack of lighting;
- frequent overflows;
- excess fertilizer in the substrate.
Disease and pest control
Most often, Wanda is affected by aphids, spider mites, less often by thrips, scale insects and mealybugs. In the fight against parasites, spraying with the drug "Actellik" or "Fitoverm" helps.
Root rot and fusarium are the main diseases of this variety. Ailing specimens are sprayed and watered with a foundationol solution in conjunction with the optimization of the conditions of detention.
Disease prevention tips:
- the plant is watered only with warm water and small doses;
- flower provide good lighting;
- try not to overfeed the orchid.
