Characteristics of the variety

The Lilac Mist potato variety was bred on the territory of the Russian Federation, in a specialized institute of agriculture. At the end of 2009, a decision was made to put Lilac Mist on the national register. Its characteristics and description amaze all farmers.

It was created for the northern regions and regions of the Far East. It can be grown on farm plots, regular vegetable gardens, or in an industrial field. The tubers are coarse in structure and all have the same weight and size, therefore it is recommended to use for sale. It is very difficult to damage the fruit when you dig it. Also, the seed material does not degenerate, and it can be used for planting for many years.

If the soil is nutritious and the climatic conditions are acceptable, then the yield characteristic is observed at a high level. From 1 hectare, farmers collect about 300 centners of even tubers. A unique high yield was noted, which amounted to almost 500 centners. No fungal or viral infections affect this potato variety. Late blight and various mosaic variations do not appear. But, in some cases, nematode infection is noted.

Description of the plant

The bush is of an intermediate type. Its foliage spreads moderately around its axis. The height of the bush can reach 1.5 m. The foliage on the tops is large and has a dark green color.

Slight waviness is noted at the edges. Corollas have a pronounced pink tint, but quickly fall off. The root system is at a high level. About 20 fruits are harvested from 1 bush.

Description of the fetus

The shape of the fruit is oval, with slight curves at the base. If you believe the description, then the characteristic of the form is always smooth and accurate. Their weight can reach 150 g. In Lilac Mist potatoes, the color of the peel is always pink. It appears equally over the entire surface. The thickness of the peel is average, so the shade of the pulp is visible. During storage, tubers do not lose their commercial qualities, and are stored for 4-5 months.

Eyes are observed, but they are not deep. Their number is minimal, so this does not affect the commercial qualities in any way. When cut, a creamy flesh is observed. The high level of starch, which is 15-17%, makes these potatoes richer and tastier. It also contains a large amount of vitamins, proteins and minerals.

It is the perfect variety to use in any dish.Due to the high starch content, the mashed potatoes will turn out to be airy and have a rich taste. But it is better not to cook chips from this variety of potatoes, because they will not crunch.

Advantages and disadvantages

The following characteristics are considered to be the main advantages:

  • high taste indicators;
  • high yield level: about 300 kg of ideal fruits are harvested from 1 hectare;
  • stores well for several months, and tolerates transportation well over long distances;
  • unpretentious in care;
  • it is highly resistant to drought;
  • good external characteristics that have a beneficial effect on the sale.

But the disadvantages include the fact that this variety can be subject to a certain number of diseases (for example, root rot and black leg) and parasites.

Growing rules

To begin with, medium-sized fruits are selected from last year's harvest. They need to be treated with special substances that will speed up the ripening process. As soon as the sprouts begin to appear, they can be planted in the soil. This is best done at the end of May.

The soil should be thoroughly loosened so that it warms up in the sun. It is necessary to put humus in each hole, which must be mixed with the ash of trees. The distance between the bushes should be 40 cm, but the distance between the rows should be 65 cm.

Each new crop must be planted in new soil to reduce the risk of various infections. Ideal places would be those where legumes or cabbage previously grew. But instead of potatoes, it is recommended to plant phacelia, which will restore the entire soil balance. Water should be sparingly so that moisture does not stagnate in the ground. As a top dressing, you can use cow humus or buy special substances with phosphates. Several hilling operations are carried out throughout the season to keep the ridges high. The number of hillocks depends on the development of the plant. Also, you should regularly remove all weeds so that they do not interfere with the development of tubers.

A few days before the harvest is complete, all the tops must be removed. This will allow the fruit to absorb all the nutrients. After digging, the fruits should be dried in the open sun for about half an hour, and only then put into storage places.

Disease prevention

Various viruses, cancers and mosaics do not affect this variety. As a preventive measure, loosen the soil and remove all plants and weeds from it. If a massive late blight disease begins, then the plant is treated with preparations containing copper.

To prevent the appearance of Colorado beetles and aphids, it is necessary to treat the plant with insecticides. Straw mixed with humus is placed between the rows. All spraying is best done a few days before thorough watering.

Lilac Mist is a type of potato that is quite versatile to use. It is used not only for personal purposes, but also for the purpose of selling. It is drought tolerant and always yields high, and can be grown in a wide variety of areas without proper care. But with proper care, its yield only increases.
